right now on nbc 10 news kay gunmen open fire on an unmarked police car in philadelphia. no officers were hurt. this morning two suspects are in custody and investigators are looking for one or two more. the race for presidential delegates rolls on today as voters in five states take part in primaries and caucuses. a look ahead to those contests. we have a chilly start to our saturday. we take a live look outside from our camera atop the lowe's hotel in center city. some snowflakes in our near future before the weather takes a turn that you definitely will like. good morning, everybody. welcome to "nbc 10 news today."

i'm ted greenberg. thank you for starting your saturday bhorng us so early. it's 5:00 a.m. let's get our first check on the weather from our meteorologist michelle grossman. i had a do a lot of scraping on my windshield. >> you south jersey folks got a lot of snow. six inches. winter is not over before we have a little spring fling. cape may got that snow yesterday and a little bit of snow tomorrow morning. today we'll keep it dry. we're starting out cold. temperatures at or below freezing in every spot across the area. 16 right now in mount pocono, 26 in allentown, a cold 25 degrees in lancaster, below freezing in philadelphia. 29 in millville and freezing mark at wildwood at 32. factor in the winds not that strong but wind chills in the low 20s.

feels like 21 in philadelphia. feels like 15 in reading. feels like the teens in lancaster and feels like 17 degrees in atlantic city. there's your cold start. winter is not over. we'll be cold all throughout the day. temperatures below normal for this time of the year in the low 40s. by 9:00 a mixture of sun and clouds. by noon mostly cloudy. by 3:0043 degrees. cold one today to set the stage for rain and snow coming in overnight. not a big deal. we'll talk more about that and then tracking spring-like weather in your seven day. >> shots fired. shots fired. >> gun inmen opened fire on an unmarked police car. this morning investigators have two suspects in custody. sky force 10 was first on the scene capturing these images with police with guns drawn, searching for the shooters in frankfurt. drew smith is live at police headquarters with the latest on

the investigation. >> reporter: good morning. at this early hour that manhunt continues for other people who were involved in this shoot out. the police officer was able not only to survive in this case but get out of his car, chase after one much these guys and arrest him all without using his gun. let's take you to the 5300 block of hedge street last night in frankfurt. police say an undercover narcotics team heard gunfire when one unmarked car drove up and bullets started flying at it. >> just a few feet away from where the officer was sitting in the driver's seat is where that bullet struck the police car in the front bumper. >> reporter: the officer was not hurt and did arrest one guy and another suspect caught a short time stater. search crews remained on the scene for hours searching for other people involved. police were out there in a known drug area doing their job. they were narcotics officers.

unclear if the suspects knew they were shooting at place because they were in unmarked cars not in uniform. today marks a somber anniversary for the family and comrade of philadelphia police sergeant robert wilson 3iii. one year ago gunmen shot officer wilson. balloons will be released in his honor at the exact time of day they lost him. march 5th last year when sergeant wilson and his partner were doing security checks. wilson ran into the game stop to grab a gift for his son's birthday. two armed men came into the store and announced a robbery. wilson died in a shoot out with the men. police department forensi c graphic artist did this painting. he received a medal of valor and

police hero plaque and promoted from officer to sergeant. people are reacting with outrage to this picture. it shows upper darby high school dressed up as members of the ku klux klan. they were part of a class assignment of the history of the 1920s. school leaders are apologizing saying the assignment was inappropriate. upper darby district issued an apology to students, parents and community parents. they said the skit was not meant to hurt anyone. class assignment happened last school year but administrators told us they didn't know about photo until thursday night. we spoke with a philadelphia teacher who is also teaching 1920s history. >> i plan like all of the diversity in mind and that everybody feels included and not marginalized and i'm not going to do anything to offend any

particular groups of students. >> staff and administrators were already undergoing diversity training. upper darby high school plans to work with students about the issue on monday. three high school football players are facing charges in a hazing of a teammate. students nicknamed hazing days as no gay thursday. authorities say on a thursday last october three seniors on the football team held down a freshman teammate and violated him with a broom stick. 5:06 right now decision 2016. more presidential delegates will be up for grabs today. there are primary elections or caucuses in five states, nebraska, ken, maine, kansas and louisiana. now two of the candidates protests and scuffles disrupted a donald trump rally in new orleans last night.

largest protest came from activists for black lives matter. took security officers about 15 minutes to escort them out. some people at the rally got pushed and knocked over. on stage trump continued his attack against republicans marco rubio, ted cruz and mitt romney who has been blasting trump's candidacy. many republicans are talking about the possibility of a contested convention as a way to stop front-runner donald trump. but senator cruz says that would only lead to a revolt within the gop. >> a lot of folks in washington are talking about a brokered convention. a brokered convention is a pipe dream of the washington establishment. it is their hope that they can come and snatch this nomination away from the people. >> cruz attacked trump for dipping the conservative

political action conference or cpac in maryland this weekend. ben carson ended his bid for the white house at cpac yesterday. carson surged in the polls yesterday during the fall but he lost moment after questions popped up about his policy expertise. carson joked a lot of people love me they just won't vote for me. in the democratic race senator bernie sanders plans to campaign in ohio today. that state holds its primary on march 15th. yesterday sanders blasted front-runner hillary clinton for her positions on free trade at a rally in michigan. he also blamed her for the decline in manufacturing job. clinton will continue examining in michigan today. yesterday she toured an auto parts plant in detroit. she said the nation needs a new bargain to create better paying jobs. she and sander will debate before that state's primary. tomorrow former republican

feels like winter this morning. here's a live look outside. we're looking at a beautiful skyline this morning. we're looking at just a few clouds. we'll see those clouds increasing throughout the day. still dark. cold. 28 degrees in washington township. 28 in trenton. 25 in chester springs. 26 this morning in rice town to the north and west. temperatures in the low to mid-20s. 22 degrees in pottstown. in the teens in mount pocono. 16 degrees, 25 in lancaster. to the south and east you're waking up to temperatures mainly in the mid-to-upper 20s, 25 at the atlantic city airport. 29 in dover and 29 degrees in beach haven. today we'll keep it dry. we'll see dry conditions but things change overnight with a little clipper system coming through bringing us a chance for rain and snow into sunday morning. then we're track big time warm up. that's all coming up. still feels like winter

a discovery is bringing america back to the trial of the century. police are examining a knife reportedly found at the home where o.j. simpson was living

when his wife and her friend were murdered. sources tell nbc news the knife appears to be too small to be the murder weapon, but they are not ruling anything out. nbc's patrick healey reports from los angeles. >> reporter: now in a nevada prison on an unrelated case, o.j. simpson once again is the topic, a generation after found him not guilty in the murder of his former wife nicole brown and her friend ron goldman. murder weapon never found. l lapd confirms they are in possession of a knife found on simpson's property. >> what's been submitted to our lab. they will study it and examine it. >> reporter: lapd learned a retired motor officers got the knife while off duty. >> he claimed that an individual who claimed to be a construction worker provided him with this knife, claiming that it was

found on front. >> reporter: his account is now being vetted. >> if that cop thought it was important he would have turned it into somebody before now. >> reporter: civil rights attorney carl douglas was part of simpson's 1995 defense team. >> for them to suggest or to harbor any belief that this knife is connected is pure fantasy. >> murder weapon is always a key piece of evidence but you don't need it. >> reporter: regardless because simpson has been found not guilty of the double murders the law says he can't face double jeopardy. he can't be tried again. nbc sources describe what was found as like a construction worker's utility knife, smaller than what would have been expected but no decisions on its authenticity until after the testing. in los angeles, patrick healy reporting. >> mash shah clark sat down for a two hour "dateline" nbc

pocono. as we go throughout time temperatures pretty cold throughout the day. we're looking at temperatures not rising very far. we'll be into the 40s by later this afternoon. weather headlines on your saturday, yep still winter so don't think those 70s are right around the concern. we'll see them later this week. tracking rain and snow. that's mainly overnight into tomorrow morning. we'll do that for you in just a few minutes. there's that spring fling temperatures in the 50s then the 60s and then the 70s. 30 trees right now in philadelphia. winds out of the north-northwest at 10 miles per hour. temperatures across the region 26 in allentown, 24 in reading, 30 degrees in philadelphia. south and east looking at the 20s, 25 in atlantic city, 29 degrees in millville. again we're looking at temperatures, feeling a lot colder than it is. feels like 18 degrees in allentown, feels like 17 in lancaster, feels like 23 degrees in millville. taking a look outdoors we're still dark.
